In Reading, we are working on our next story, Maybe Something Beautiful. This story is Realistic Fiction. We will focus on Character traits in this story.
In Spelling and Phonics, we will be working on Long Vowel Words. In Grammar, we are working on Subjects and Predicates. In Religion, we are learning about St. .Francis. We will also be learning about Ways that We Care for Others. In Science, we are reviewing Plants. We will be moving on to our new unit on Animals. In Social Studies, we are learning about Christopher Columbus. We are also continuing our unit on Communities. In Vocabulary Workshop, we are working on Unit 2. Spelling test on Tuesday, October 11th. Food Pantry item this month is pasta. Kindergarten is collecting socks if anyone would like to add to their collection. Tag Day on Thursday $2.00. No School on Friday, October 7th and Monday, October 10th. October reading logs are due on November 2nd. Have a great week! In Reading, we are working on our new story, How Many Stars in the Sky? The genre is Realistic Fiction. Our comprehension skill is Character and Setting.
In Phonics and Spelling, we are working on Short Vowels. In Grammar, we are working on Nouns and Complete Sentences. In Religion, we are learning about The Blessed Sacrament, consecration, the tabernacle, and genuflect. We will begin working in our new Sacrament books next week. In Science, we are finishing up and reviewing our unit on Plants. In Social Studies, we are continuing Maps and learning about Johnny Appleseed. In Vocabulary, we are starting Unit 2. Reading Logs will start on Monday, October 2nd. 15 minutes of reading Monday-Friday. Please send in a box of pasta for October's food collection. Students should have received their Google Classroom invitation. We worked on accepting the invitations in school. Most of the students are on. We are working on a couple of students that are not in. All students have been moved to second grade on IXL. In Reading, we will be working this week on Reading checks and starting our My View books. In Phonics, we are reviewing Long and short vowels and digraphs. In Writing, we are working on journal writing and responding to writing prompts. In Math, we are doing a quick review of addition/subtraction facts, 2 digit addition and subtraction (no regrouping). In Math, we are also working on a Math placement test and the IXL diagnostic test. In Science, we will start our first unit on Plants. In Social Studies, we are working on our first unit on Communities. In Religion, we are working on Creation and Prayers at Mealtime. In Vocabulary Workshop, we will start Unit 1 with our vocabulary cards. Please cover Math and My View books. Please send in all forms and supply money. Homework agendas will be in Homework folders today. Please return all homework tomorrow. Have a great week! We had a great first day yesterday.

The last day of school is June 22nd. Move Up Day is Monday, June 20th. Second grade ice cream party is Monday, June 20th. Student Council is sponsoring a Summer Raffle Basket. Tickets are $1.00. They will be sold at lunch this week.
In Math, we are working on 3 digit subtraction with regrouping. We have also started multiplication.
In Reading, we are finishing up a few stories. We are continuing to practice comprehension skills. In Spelling and Phonics, we are practicing Spelling. We will not have any homework or tests. In Religion, we are continuing to practice the Rosary. In Social Studies, we are finishing up American Symbols. Projects are due on Friday, June 10th. 12:30 dismissal on Thursday, June 9th and Friday, June 10th. Turtle Back Zoo. Bagged lunch, water. Wear your Field Day tshirt, gym shorts and sneakers. In Reading, we are continuing last weeks story, Building on Nature.
We will continue working on comprehension and finding evidence in the text to support the main idea and details. In Vocabulary Workshop. we will have our final test on Unit 14 on Wednesday, May 25th. In Spelling and Phonics, we are reviewing. In Math, we are reviewing Topic 10 and will have our Math test on Tuesday, May 24th. We will then move on to Topic 11, 3 Digit Subtraction with Regrouping. In Social Studies, we are working on American Symbols and Memorial Day. In Science, we are working on Insects. In Religion, we are working on learning How to Pray the Rosary. In Grammar, we are reviewing Adverbs and Adjectives. We will have free dress and a pizza party tomorrow, May 24th. This is from an auction item from The Ferrari Family. Thank you!! 12:30 dismissal on Friday, May 27th. School is closed on May 30 and 31st for Memorial Day. In Reading, we are working on a new story this week, Building on Nature: The Life of Antoni Gaudi. The genre is Narrative Nonfiction. We will continue to work on comprehension skills.
In Vocabulary Workshop, we are working on Unit 14. Unit 14 is our final unit. In Spelling and Phonics, we are working on Open Syllables V/CV words. In Math, we are working on Numbers to 1,000. In Science, we are working on Insects. In Social Studies, we are working on American Symbols. In Religion, we will be working on How to Pray the Rosary. In Handwriting, we continue learning cursive. Friday, May 20th free dress for our class. We will also have doughnuts. 12:30 dismissal on Friday, May 27th. School is closed on May 30, 31st for Memorial Day. May Food Pantry items: rice and beans. We will be reading our First Communion Projects to the class this week. They will be on display in the hall for everyone to see. June 2nd - Field Day!
